Malachi Smith is a Jamaican dub poet.[1]
Malachi Smith was born in Westmoreland, and grew up in Clarendon, St. Elizabeth and St. Catherine, staying with various family members.[2] The son of a preacher, Malachi began writing poetry at the age of eight,[3] and recorded his first poem Kimbo to Kimbo in 1979. His other CDs are Blacker the Berry - The Sweeter The Cherry,[4] Throw Two Punch, Middle Passage and Luv Dub Fever.[5] Malachi is currently working on his new CD project Hail to Jamaica. This collection will feature most of his award winning poems about Jamaica. Malachi won the 2009 most outstanding writer award for the Jamaica Development Commission's Creative Writing Competition.[3]
A retired member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force at the rank of detective corporal, Malachi is based in Miami.[2][5]
